Anime Lectio: Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to my Charms Season One
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.
3. Deep Breathing
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.
4. Open yourself to God’s Presence
Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
Being loved by others, and not necessarily everyone, is important so you can love yourself. Loving yourself is how you can really love others. The same is also true for liking yourself and others. But what happens when you want everyone to like you and you want to work at someone liking you? The answer to this question can be seen in the first season of the series Medaka Kuroiwa is Impervious to my Charms.
6. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.
A cute girl who has the ability to charm people as easily as she breathes, according to what she thinks, has to work at getting a boy to like her who attempts to resist her charms due to being a monk in training. The more she works at getting him to like her with her charms, the more she actually likes him, which leads to her ending up falling in love with him. This has never happened to her with anyone before. Another girl also has a crush on the same boy, which results in the girl trying to charm the boy telling this other girl that she also loves him. The first season ends with the two girls letting each other know that they won't give up on him, so more about this will most likely be seen in the second season.
7. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
Like and love are two different things, even though it doesn't always appear to be that way, especially in media. There's a class in the school on the property of the monastery here called Crazy in Love, not Crazy in Like. Liking people and being liked by people is important. It doesn't have to turn into loving people and being loved by people, at least not in a romantic sense. There are many forms of love. Romantic love is the most common form and therefore, the form that most people are used to and think of. Working on this is important for everyone, even someone who is a monk in training since understanding how you can like and love others is an important part of this training (this comes from a monk - it's also easier to be a monk in training at a place for that known as a monastery, where monks also live: there are also old stories about monks interacting with women). Praying about it is important too.
8. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we can work on understanding the differences between like and love, as well as the forms of like and love, and that these differences are important for everyone, like monks in training.
