Interior Monologue # 3: Hiei: A demonic mystery

In the basic analysis video, Hiei is seen as one of the first villains in this series that ends up helping Yusuke.  He helps Yusuke due to the fact that Yusuke beats him, but Yusuke didn’t convince him to join him, and stop his evil ways.  Hiei is interested in taking revenge on Yusuke, but at the same time, is also interested in helping him.  This is just one interesting aspect of his character that makes him a mysterious demon, and this is also seen in the video before the character analysis assignment, and the one after it.

In the video before the character analysis assignment of Hiei, we see him helping Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama, who will be analyzed next week, with his third case of fighting four demons that want to rule the Earth.  We saw Yusuke fighting one of them on the first day of this week (they all fight one), but the only other one I’m interested in is the one Hiei fights.  Before this fight, Seiryu, the third of these demons, meets Yusuke and his team in his lair.  What moves Hiei to fight Seiryu is what happens when Byako, the demon that Kuwabara supposedly defeated, shows up to ask for help from Seiryu.  Not only does Seiryu refuse to help Byako, but he also finishes him with his freezing technique, and by destroying his body after freezing him.  Yusuke and Kuwabara are angered by this, while Kurama explains what happens, but Hiei insists on fighting Seiryu, which Kurama also explains to Yusuke (I also think Hiei agrees to this fight because he’s the only one who wouldn’t be affected by Seiryu’s freezing technique).  

In addition to Kurama’s explanation of this to Yusuke, we also see what Hiei does before fighting Seiryu, like looking over at the head of Byako, and throwing his cloak over it.  Hiei seems to be avenging Byako due to what Kurama tells Yusuke, but before we see other examples of what Hiei does due to his personality, a character analysis assignment is given to explore what Hiei is thinking before fighting Seiryu.  

Character Analysis Assignment - Before Hiei fights Seiryu, he, along with Yusuke and his other friends, witness Seiryu killing his teammate Byako.  After Hiei insists on fighting Seiryu himself due to this, Hiei looks over at the head of the slain Byako and throws his cloak over it.  Seiryu explains what this could mean before fighting Hiei, which Kurama also does with Yusuke, but write, in the style of an interior monologue, what Hiei would be thinking about this.
