The "problems" that I see with Fairy Tail, which are seen in the two videos in this reflection,

involve the typical anime theme of the power of friendship, one of the five things I talk about with

anime in general in my Introduction post for the second day of my summer anime classes.  The two

videos in this reflection talk about how the power of friendship is seen a lot in Fairy Tail and the

"problems" that this creates.  The videos raise other important points too, like the differences (and

similarities) between One Piece and Fairy Tail and the distinction of Shounen anime, which is part of

the whole what is anime problem that I discussed in a previous post (Shounen is a genre - can anime

simply be distinguished by genre?).  However, here I will focus on the "problems" of the power of

friendship in this anime and how these "problems" are seen in this videos (putting the word problems

in quotation marks is a way for me to talk about the anime in an impartial, or fair, way, which is what

I try to do on this blog, and for my classes).

First of all, we have the "problem" of the power of friendship itself, which the first video admits

is what people tend to dislike about Fairy Tail.  The ridiculousness of the power of friendship in this

anime is usually seen with the character Natsu.  When his friends lose a fight, he somehow gets

strong enough to win the fight himself, which the first video also goes on a rant about (if I remember

correctly, in the first one mentioned, what Natsu ingested for a power up should not have even

worked, but of course, it does).  However, this "problem" is what the Fairy Tail Guild is based on, so

this "problem" is important for the characters in this Guild, which leads to the next "problem" of this

anime.

Second, we have the "problem" of not having a clear main character, which is usually not a

"problem" in other anime.  Natsu is typically seen as the main character in this anime for the reasons

mentioned in the previous paragraph and I also learned based on a student presentation of Fairy Tail

that Lucy is the main character since she is a new member of the Guild and the anime, specifically

what happens in it and the Guild she wants to be part of, is from her perspective.  However, the first

video talks about an interesting idea of who the main character in the anime could be.  The Guild

itself, not just one particular member of it, could be the main character due to the "problem" of the

power of friendship in this anime and that this "problem" is what the Fairy Tail Guild is based on.  It

is what leads to the third, and final, "problem" I see in this anime.

The third, and final, "problem" I see in this anime is seen in the second video when talking about

hyping up certain characters in this anime.  These certain characters are mostly some of the heroes in

the anime (a personal favorite of mine is Mystogon), but it is not all of the characters in the Fairy

Tail Guild.  This is probably why the Guild itself is not the main character due to Natsu getting most

of this hype (the main character in anime is usually the one who gets the most attention, or hype, so

Natsu being the main character in Fairy Tail would make sense).

The "problems" of Fairy Tail involve the power of friendship, specifically how the power of

friendship influences all of the characters in the Fairy Tail Guild, or ones associated with it.  This

influence, as well as focus, may not be the same for all of the characters, but it is what makes Fairy

Tail different.
