Forgiveness and redemption in The Devil is a Part-Timer

When a student did his presentation on the anime The Devil is a Part-Timer for my summer anime

class recently, he only focused on the fight scenes in it (I think it was just one of them actually that

was near the end of the 1st season).  I figured there was more to it than that due to the title of this

anime, so this weekend, I took the time to watch the anime myself (the video I use for this reflection

isn't very helpful for reflecting on this anime, but it's the best one I could find).  Even after watching

the anime myself, it still seems difficult to follow, but what I ultimately got out of it are the ideas of

forgiveness and redemption.  As I mention in the introduction to my summer anime class (seen here in

my Day 2 - Introduction post), I think forgiveness is one of the important things seen in anime.  It

usually involves forgiveness vs. revenge, but redemption is usually an important part of that too.

In The Devil is a Part-Timer, I saw the ideas of forgiveness and redemption in what the characters

did and where they did it throughout the show (only watched 1st season).  Like I previously

mentioned, this isn't always obvious, but its most obvious when focusing on the devil and the hero

characters.  In another world, the devil was clearly the bad guy and the hero the good person.  When

going to a new world, or Earth, they both get a chance at a new life, which means redemption for the

devil and the hero to forgive him, even if this doesn't happen right away.  It takes time for forgiveness

and redemption to happen, and that's what this series does.
