Nihilism in Elfen Lied

In one of my summer classes, I almost got a student to do their anime presentation on the anime

Elfen Lied, but they decided to present a different anime instead (will talk about that anime next

week).  After taking the time to watch Elfen Lied myself recently, I realized that the decision of this

student to present a different anime instead was a good one.  That doesn't mean that I don't like this

anime.  I just think it means that it's different and that it ultimately focuses on something that the video I

use for this reflection also talks about: nihilism.   The definition I prefer to use of nihilism is the one that

this video uses, particularly that life is meaningless.

In Elfen Lied, this idea of nihilism is seen by what happens in the anime.  I agree with the video that

the plot of this anime is not important since it enforces this idea.  It seems more like a lot is going on,

but it doesn't really go anywhere.  There seems to be meaning in what is going on, and what is going

on can be explained, but ultimately, what is going on is pretty meaningless.  The point is that there is

no point.
