Overcoming grief in Anohana

One of the things I like seeing in anime is the subject of dealing with death and dying (or any other
traumatic event), otherwise known as overcoming grief. This is definitely seen in the anime Anohana
since it's entirely about overcoming grief as the first video in this reflection suggests. I guess I like
when this happens because overcoming grief is when anime deals with something that is real, meaning
grief is not a made up thing. As the first video also mentions, grief is seen in the main characters of
Anohana in various ways because of what grief is, which is better to just know so you can see it when
it happens and know what is going on so you know what to do to help, including getting professional
help if needed. I use the first video in this reflection as an introduction to this anime, as well as what
it's about (also, check out the APA paper mentioned at the end of the first video - it also has a lot of
interesting theories of why things happen in the show, which make sense, as well as support what is
said in the video). The second video is the one that explains what grief is in a general sense, which I
think is important to know after getting an introduction to grief, like in the first video in this reflection.
As the second video mentions, grief does not stop time. Life goes on with grief, as well as what
happens in life. Dealing with grief never ends due to what life is like. However, this doesn't mean that
dealing with grief doesn't, or cannot, change over time. In fact, this has to happen in order for grieving
to be healthy and to be overcome. In order for grieving to be like this, not forgetting about the source
of grief is important, but how this is done is also important. In the anime, not forgetting about the
source of grief happens, but it's not done in healthy ways and overcome until the end of the anime.
The epilogue movie also shows that grief has been overcome in a healthy way.
I guess another reason why I like seeing the subject of overcoming grief in anime is because I used
to teach a grieving class. If I did that again, I would focus on how overcoming grief is seen in anime,
like in the anime Anohana.
