Acceptance in Angel Beats

Angel Beats is an anime that deals with acceptance, as the video in this reflection explains in a
rather interesting way. Acceptance is the last stage in the five stages of grief after the stages of denial,
anger, bargaining, and depression. In Angel Beats, what makes acceptance difficult for the characters
is not being able to overcome their denial, anger, and bargaining (not so much depression really).
Acceptance in Angel Beats is also somewhat different from how grieving usually works because the
characters are already dead, so for them, acceptance involves letting go of who they are now in
purgatory in order to move on to the next life of heaven, hell, or reincarnation (or whatever else it
could be).
But what is the next life for them? They don't really know, so they remain with what they do know
and do what they need to do to keep it that way. This does work for a while, but eventually, they need
to accept what they need to do, which is move on, even if they don't know what that is, not what they
want to do, which is stay where they are, even though things are changing. This does happen for the
characters gradually, but some need more time than others based on what happens.
