Violence in Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Part 2 of environmentalism in anime)

Environmentalism is seen in some way in all of the works of Hayao Miyazaki.  Based on his films

that I have seen so far, environmentalism isn't always the dominant theme except in his film Princess

Mononoke.  Every movie of his that I have seen so far isn't as obvious with its environmentalism

message meaning it talks about other things besides environmentalism and environmentalism is part of

it.  Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, however, is a work of his that is a lot like Princess Mononoke.

Even though both are mainly about environmentalism, Nausicaa focuses more on the idea of violence.

Violence can change people, which is what the video in this reflection focuses on near the end of it,

as well as the role of violence in environmentalism.  People usually resort to violence when they see no

other way to get what they want.  The usual thinking behind others trying to stop them and seeking a

non-violent solution is that a non-violent solution is not possible and that this can only be stopped by

violence, which justifies the violence according to the people who usually resort to violence to solve

their problems.  However, there is a difference between what is not possible and what is difficult.  It

may be difficult to not resort to violence to solve your problems, but that means it requires effort to

work towards a better solution.
