In an assignment for one of my courses in transpersonal psychology, we had to talk about the dreams we were having that week. What I did, and still do, to help me with my dreams was watch the first two videos in this reflection, followed by listening to the music in the third video in this reflection as I take a nap, all from the anime Berserk. I already talked about this anime on this blog, but I have taken the time recently to watch it (I have done that with several anime on this blog, which is part of why I mostly watch shorter series now). I have only watched the first season of it, which is where these scenes come from (the music in the third video is attributed to one of the characters) and is the only part that I think is worth watching (and not even all of it). Focusing on the videos of it in this reflection is good enough for me as it helps me with my studies of transpersonal psychology (my current professor in the course with this assignment encouraged me to do more research on anime and the transpersonal).
Defining transpersonal psychology is one of the biggest criticisms of the field (I have already read and written about this). For my purposes here, I will focus on what transpersonal means. Transpersonal means going beyond yourself, which also means going beyond religion and spirituality (substituting the word transpersonal for the word spiritual or religious in transpersonal psychology is part of the defining transpersonal psychology criticism). In the anime Berserk, the main character goes beyond himself by thinking and talking to other people about what he wants for himself, as well as what he does. You do not need spirituality or religion to do that, which the main character in this anime can attest to.
