Monks in anime: Sword of the Stranger

     The monks in Sword of the Stranger are not any of the fighters in the movie, but their monastery is a 

place of refuge for the main character, which is where the main character, with the help of another main 

character that does fight, seeks refuge from fighting and is seen in part of the video for this reflection 

(captions need to be turned on for it).  Monasteries can be a place of refuge for people, whether they are 

seeking refuge due to a certain situation, are looking for a place for a spiritual retreat, or are looking for 

something else that can be found there.  This place of refuge may be temporary or permanent depending 

on who you are, why you have come there, who else is there, etc.  Whether it be temporary or permanent, 

the important thing about monasteries is that they be a place of refuge, but a place that is still part of the 

world by being involved in it somehow.
