Anime Lectio: Aharen is Indecipherable Seasons One and Two

                                                            1. Why do Anime Lectio? 

Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel? 

2. Put away all distractions 

(phones, work, etc.)

We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.

3. Deep Breathing

Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface. 

4. Open yourself to God’s Presence

Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.  

5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime

Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime.  The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.

Romance in anime is something that I think about a lot when it comes to anime, which is something that has come up in several of my previous blog posts.  Romance anime, especially romantic comedies, usually focus on being with someone else in a loving relationship that's expressed by dating and spending time together in other ways.  Other characters besides the couple are usually friends that are either there for support, to complicate things, or just show up for some other reason, like if they are family members of other characters.  In the first and second seasons of the anime Aharen is Indecipherable, most of the characters seem to be there for support of the two main characters, or couple, even the two main characters themselves (gets more serious in the second season).

6. Brief and written explanation of the anime

Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.

The anime series Aharen is Indecipherable starts out when a tall guy who looks unfriendly but isn't ends up sitting next to a quiet little girl in class. Because of looking unfriendly, the guy wants to change what people think of him, which causes him to befriend the quiet little girl he sits next to in class. The little girl is so quiet that she has to get really close to people in order to be heard, which she does a lot in class with her new tall and unfriendly looking friend. They not only spend time together in class, but also outside of class and have crazy adventures, which includes outlandish overthinking on the part of the guy and interactions with other friends and characters that support them as much as they support each other.

7.  Reflect on the anime

Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds?  The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.

When I was checking out anime to watch in the spring season of this year, I looked up descriptions of anime on the website myanimelist.com. When I was there, I saw a description for an anime called Aharen is Indecipherable, which looked interesting. What's also interesting is that while the myanimelist website listed the anime as a comedy, Crunchyroll advertises it as a romance and a comedy. After seeing the anime for myself, however, I definitely think it's more of a comedy than a romance or rather an anime that perfects the balance of comedy and romance, meaning the romance doesn't overpower the comedy or vice versa. In terms of romantic comedy anime, this one seems more natural than others, meaning it doesn't try too hard for the romance to happen and/or continue, like romantic comedy anime usually does. While it can be serious at times (more so in the second season than in the first), it can still be humorous and not let that overpower the romance (in other words, there's a good balance between romance and comedy here).
