Anime Lectio: Eden
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.
3. Deep Breathing
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.
4. Open yourself to God’s Presence
Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
Where would you like to live? What would you call the place where you would like to live? Such a place is usually known as a utopia, but the name for such a place is usually Eden, like the Garden of Eden. Even though Eden was a place, it can be different for different people based on things including, but not limited to, what they are looking for, why they are looking for it, and where they are looking for it. An interesting example of this can be seen in the short anime series Eden.
6. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.
The short anime series Eden starts off when two farming robots find a baby girl, even though humanity disappeared 1000 years ago. There's a place where the human can live with robots since the robots there like humans, but there's another place in their world where robots don't like humans, so the two farming robots take the baby girl with them to the place where humans can live with robots in order to raise the baby girl themselves. However, when the baby girl becomes a teenager, she becomes more curious about the place in their world where robots don't like humans and is interested in learning more about it, despite the two farming robots, or her parents, being against it at first, but eventually being okay with it. In the place in their world where robots don't like humans, the robot in charge is actually a human who transferred his humanity into a robot after his loved ones died when he was trying to save them by creating a better world for them, as well as for the rest of humanity. This robot tries to stop the teenage girl from bringing the rest of humanity back from being frozen in time (like she was?), but ultimately decides to help her bring them back from being frozen in time.
7. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
The name of the world in the short anime series Eden is Eden, but when it's divided up, it becomes Eden Zero, Eden One, and Eden Two. I guess other numbers could be added too if people decided to create multiple Edens for themselves instead of just one for everybody. A utopia, or a place like Eden, could be different depending on what individual people want, but what all individual people should want is one utopia, or Eden, for all of them.
8. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we can all live together in one utopia, or Eden, instead of dividing ourselves with separate ones.
