Anime Lectio: The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.
3. Deep Breathing
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.
4. Open yourself to God’s Presence
Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
Do you hide who you really are from most, if not all, people? There could be several reasons why people, like myself, do this, like not wanting other people, with exceptions maybe, to know what you are really like, trying to focus on other things instead that are more in line with what people around you do and what else you do for them, and/or doing that in order to do your job. An interesting example of this can be seen in the anime series The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio.
6. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.
Two different girls who are both professional voice actors do a voice actor radio show together about what they do as friends. Despite going to school together, they aren't exactly friends, or at least as friendly as they claim to be on their radio show. When they are eventually exposed for who they really are and what they are really like at school by one of their classmates, their fans have mixed reactions about this - some still support them, while others don't and are also angry about it. Despite these reactions, as well as others, like one trying to save the other from rumors, they still continue their voice acting careers. They also help each other with their work, proving that you don't have to like the other person in order to respect them.
7. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
It may be necessary to hide who you really are from most, if not all, people, at least in person, but as this anime series demonstrates, you can't keep that up for very long. What you like to do, and who you really are because of that, are important not just for yourself, but for other people too. For example, last school year, I didn't do the anime club at all that I was asked to take over by students who still wanted to do it. I felt like focusing on what else I had to do, like take over leading the school's ministry program. Even though I still have to lead the school's ministry program this year, I feel like starting up the anime club again is something that I should do too, not just for myself, but for other people too in order to do more for myself. There are many sides to many kinds of people. Being mindful of this with others, as well as yourself, is important.
8. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we can accept all of the sides of others, as well as of ourselves, or at least respect that if we don't like these other sides/people.
