Anime Lectio: Makeine - Too Many Losing Heroines

                                                           1. Why do Anime Lectio?

Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?

2. Put away all distractions

(phones, work, etc.)

We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.

3. Deep Breathing

Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.

4. Open yourself to God’s Presence

Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.

5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime

Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime.  The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.

The school that I work in recently started allowing girls in our high school division.  While we try to keep the boys and the girls separate in this high school division by being co-institutional and not co-ed, there are times when boys and girls get together, like for after school activities.  Being co-institutional is a good idea, as well as remaining that way, but I also realize that boys and girls getting together, especially if they see each other anyway, is just going to happen.  Being mindful of this is important, even if you do try to control it, as well as being mindful of the fact that high school kids, both boys and girls, don't always make the best decisions on their own due to their age.  While I don't need an anime series to show me this, this is something worth seeing a lot in order to understand it, like in the series Makeine - Too Many Losing Heroines.

6. Brief and written explanation of the anime

Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.

After a boy happens to see a girl getting rejected by a guy she likes, the rejected girl ends up hanging out with the boy who happened to see this rejection.  Over time, this also happens with two other girls, so the three girls, as well as the one boy who's friends with all three of the girls, as well as their other friends, all have adventures together in and out of a crazy school with other people in the school (some teachers and peers) in order to figure out what they want for themselves, as well as for each other.

7.  Reflect on the anime

Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds?  The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.

As a reviewer of this anime series has often said in his reviews of the episodes of this series, high school kids are dumb. I remember commenting on this before saying that it's more like high school kids don't always make the best decisions on their own, so the decisions are dumb, not the kids themselves, which is an important distinction to make. Whether you're school is co-institutional or co-educational doesn't make a difference here. It'll happen wherever high school kids are (I use schools here since it relates to what I'm talking about in a more specific sense, but it can be applied to wherever high school aged kids are). The school environment, or where you are, which is definitely questionable at best in the anime series (and I'll leave it at that here), as well as other factors, like what's happening where you are, why it's happening, and other things, is also important to consider. As someone who also helps teach one of the girl classes (the class is a faith class), this is also important for me to remember in what I do there, like try to relate the lectio I do there with this lectio (or something like that - haven't tried that yet).

8. Final Prayer

Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime.  The following is an example written by me.

Let us pray that we can understand the difference between people, like high school kids, and their decisions.
