Anime Lectio: 100 Meters
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace. The only device you need is the one you use for this blog.
3. Deep Breathing - Open yourself to God’s Presence
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that
you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface. Remember God places all our
thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a
community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of people you
know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
4. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
How badly do you want to do something that you like to do? Would you be willing to do anything, even if it takes sacrificing your body, in order to do it? Would doing that take the enjoyment out of what you like to do in the place? The answers to these questions can be seen in the anime movie 100 Meters.
5. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.
A boy who likes to run and also happens to be really good at it ends up training another boy who is interested in learning to run as fast as the other boy. After a good amount of training, they end up having a race and the boy who was trained by the boy who could run fast already is faster than he was before, but it looked like he was really pushing himself, represented by hurting his leg. The two boys don't see each other again until they are adults when they compete against others, so they do what they need to do in order to keep doing that since they both still like to run even at the cost of sacrificing their own bodies (running while injured or running in a way that makes you faster, but can damage your body). However, all that they have to do in order to continue to run competitively doesn't seem like what they like to do and it's only when they end up racing each other again (in a race with others this time too) that they realize that they like running.
6. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
Not surprisingly, the creator of this anime movie is also the creator of the series Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, which also answers questions like the ones seen before the description here of the anime movie 100 Meters. 100 Meters doesn't go as far as Orb does since both deal with different things - 100 Meters with running (and a specific event for the most part) and Orb with the theory of heliocentrism . However, both involve questioning what you do and why you do it, so they both make you think about these questions, which are also important to pray about.
7. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we can understand what we do and why we do it.
