Anime Lectio: Jack of all Trades, Party of None Season One
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace. The only device you need is the one you use for this blog.
3. Deep Breathing - Open yourself to God’s Presence
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that
you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface. Remember God places all our
thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a
community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of people you
know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
4. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
Being able to adapt to whatever situation you end up in is important. What helps with this ability to adapt, or at least being open to doing that, is to be able to accept any kind of change. It's also more helpful to be able to do this not only for yourself, but also for others, even if some of the others don't recognize this helpfulness for their own reasons. An example of this can be seen in the first season of the series Jack of all Trades, Party of None.
5. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.
Due to not being considered a skilled enough enchanter, this enchanter, who was initially a swordsman in his adventurer party, but learned how to be an enchanter when his party needed it, is kicked out of his party. This banished party member, who was kicked out of the highly esteemed hero's party, ends up helping out another party train some of its newest members. All goes well until they run into a threat that this new party can't beat. The hero's party can't do it either without the party member that they banished, who was the reason the party was so powerful. The banished party member is actually powerful enough to defeat this threat by himself, which some members of this other party witnesses and leads to inviting him into their party, despite the fact that he doesn't need one due to being powerful enough without one. With his new party, he fights new threats, which leads to him learning about a group that kills adventurer parties and is what the first season ends with.
6. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
I think what makes this series different from other banished hero anime, which is one of the kinds of anime you see a lot now, is the banished hero's ability to adapt. Instead of getting revenge on his party for what they did to him, which is what usually happens right away in this kind of anime, he is able and willing to adapt to whatever situation he ends up in, much like how he was able and willing to adapt to the needs of his former party by going from a swordsman to an enchanter. Being able to do this is what I think makes him so strong. I also think that this is how we can be strong too.
7. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we are able to adapt to the situations that we find ourselves in in order to be stronger for being able to do that, as well as understand this.
