The humor of Hinamatsuri

I first found out about the anime Hinamatsuri when recently doing a search on youtube for videos
of martial arts in anime for the Spring class that I help with. I found some videos, but not a lot, so I
figured this was not a martial arts anime (the videos I found are on the blog for that martial arts class
- Female fighters in anime post). With the help of the video in this reflection, I took more time to
look into this anime and what I found was a comedy anime with actual humor in it.
I am not a big fan of comedy anime, or anime that focuses mostly on comedy/comedy in anime,
due to the nature of Japanese comedy, which is getting laughs by randomness, but Hinamatsuri is
more than that. Hinamatsuri is a comedy anime with an actual story. There is randomness in the
anime, but the randomness makes sense by making the randomness part of the actual story, not just
something that happens for the sake of happening, and keeping the randomness fresh/new instead of
the randomness happening for the same reason(s).
I also think another thing that helps with the comedy of Hinamatsuri is the voice of Hina, the
main character, since it always sounds the same no matter what is happening, as well as the fact that
she is the only character like this (I guess watching the anime dubbed would help here). For
example, when something serious is about to happen, or is already happening, she does not have
much of a reaction unlike the other characters involved in the situation.
There are other reasons seen in this video of what makes Hinamatsuri a different comedy anime,
but these reasons also involve its approach to humor.
