Monks in anime: Princess Mononoke

Princess Mononoke is an anime film that I have seen already.  The reason I actually know that a monk

is in it is because of the website that I shared in my introduction to monks in anime post, which is what I

started this monks in anime series with.  Not much is really explained about this monk in the movie (he's

actually referred to as a priest in the movie - monks can be priests, but not all priests are monks), but he's

one of the characters in the movie with motives that influence other characters, which is seen in the video

for this reflection.

The first appearance of the monk in this movie is when he sees the main character traveling and the

monk helps him by telling him where he needs to go, as well as by providing hospitality for him.  It

doesn't seem strange for a monk to do this at all.   In fact, monks should do this in any way they can, even

if they are traveling by themselves, which this monk seems to be doing at first.  However, he does return

to the place where he directs the main character to in order to help another character with something that

they both want, but for different reasons (he wants to be wealthy - hopefully, this is for the sake of his

men/community since this is what monks should use wealth for).  He thinks that the main character can

help with what he wants, which is something that this main character does in his own way to show others,

including this monk, what they're doing and should be doing.
