Anime Lectio: Cannon Busters
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.
3. Deep Breathing
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.
4. Open yourself to God’s Presence
Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
Wanting to be friends with everyone you meet can be difficult. If everyone's your friend, then who is the friend you like the most, as well as the friends you like better than others? Is this determined by how long you have known this friend, why they are your friend, and other things, like what you do for them? An interesting example of this can be seen in the Netflix original anime series Cannon Busters.
6. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.
In the Netflix original anime series Cannon Busters, two female robots search for an infamous and immortal man with a high bounty on his head in order to get him to help them find a friend of the one female robot. When they find this man, they start a series of crazy adventures of looking for this missing person, who is the prince of a nation that was attacked by the king's illegitimate son. These crazy adventures involve the one female robot wanting to be friends with everyone she meets, not just with the prince she's looking for, the other interested in fixing things, like the car of the immortal man, and the immortal man mainly helping out since he's looking for this prince too. However, the immortal man wants to find the prince in order to kill him since his nation killed his parents. After eventually finding the prince, chaos ensues between several characters trying to get him back, one trying to kill him, and others trying to get him to the king's illegitimate son, which results in the prince being taken to the king's illegitimate son and others planning to go on other adventures in order to get him back.
7. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
Wanting to be friends with everyone you meet is a way of being nice to everyone, but it can backfire if you don't know the person well enough to really be their friend. Getting to know someone in order to be their real friend requires taking the time to get to know them, not just be with them. This also involves knowing why they do what they do, want to do, and/or have to do, like one of your friends trying to kill another friend that you want to save. Getting to know who your real friends are is important in order to know what to do.
8. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we can understand who our real friends are.
