Anime Lectio: My Home Hero

                                                           1. Why do Anime Lectio?

Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?

2. Put away all distractions

(phones, work, etc.)

We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.

3. Deep Breathing

Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.

4. Open yourself to God’s Presence

Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.

5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime

Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime.  The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.

How far would you go for what you want?  Would you be willing to do whatever you had to do in order to get what you want instead of just talking about doing it?  The answers to these questions depend on many factors, like who the person is, what they want, and why they want it.  Whether or not they actually want to do in order to get what they want, and not just talk about it, is another issue, which is something that I am working on.  This can also be seen in other ways, like in the anime series My Home Hero.

6. Brief and written explanation of the anime

Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.

The anime series My Home Hero starts when an average father kills her daughter's abusive boyfriend after the father sees signs that the daughter has been abused and overhears the abusive boyfriend talking with friends about abusing her when the father waits for him in her apartment. The daughter's abusive boyfriend was also involved with the yakuza, so the father also has to deal with the yakuza finding out about this killing, so the father, with help from his wife, does what he can, and pretty much has to do, in order to not get caught. This involves getting rid of the dead body and keeping only the bones in order to frame someone else for the murder. In the process of doing this, the father, as well as his wife (mostly the father), is questioned by the yakuza and involved in their search for the guy the father actually killed, which the father tries to work with in order to frame someone else for the murder. This leads to a confrontation between the father who killed her daughter's abusive boyfriend and the father of the abusive boyfriend, who organizes the yakuza's search for his missing son, where the father who killed her daughter's abusive boyfriend also kills the abusive boyfriend's father. Tired from the killing he had to do in the first place, as well as what he had to do to cover it up, he simply buries the dead body somewhere deep in the wilderness, hoping no one will find it, which is what the anime series ends with.

7.  Reflect on the anime

Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds?  The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.

In a video clip I saw from this anime, the video was simply titled 'How far would you go?" and the video was of the scene where the father of the daughter's abusive boyfriend kills his daughter's abusive boyfriend. I guess this question refers to what you would do in that situation since imagining/thinking about something like it and/or talking about it is one thing, but doing it is another. Whether it's to protect your family, like in the case of this anime series, to protect yourself if you don't have a family, or even if you do, or for some other reason, what happens because of what we do is something we also have to be prepared for and ready to deal with, even if we didn't expect to deal with it. The consequences of our actions are important, even if we didn't think of these consequences due to our initial action of doing what we wanted based on thinking about what's right for you and the people you care for and about, which is usually people you know. The people you care for and about should be everyone, not just people you know, but caring more for and about people you know is easier than caring for and about people you don't know, especially when you don't have time to really think about this.

8. Final Prayer

Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime.  The following is an example written by me.

Let us pray that we can take the time to think about our actions and the consequences of the actions we do take.
