Anime Lectio: Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon Seasons One and Two
1. Why do Anime Lectio?
Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel?
2. Put away all distractions
(phones, work, etc.)
We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace.
3. Deep Breathing
Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface.
4. Open yourself to God’s Presence
Remember God places all our thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of other people you know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence.
5. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime
Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime. The following is an example of such thoughts written by me.
What do you do for others? Who you are and what you can do can, as well as should, influence what you do for others. Other factors that can influence this are who you serve, why you serve them, and where you do that. An interesting example of this can be seen in the first two seasons of the anime series Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon.
6. Brief and written explanation of the anime
Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your mind.
After getting hit by a truck, as well as a vending machine that the truck was carrying, a male vending machine enthusiast ends up in another world with the body of a vending machine in a location where no one else is around. Since he can't figure out how to move around with anyone's help yet, he's stuck where he is and manages to figure out how to make that work thanks to still having his mind and what he can do with his new body. Eventually, a female adventurer finds this vending machine, even though she doesn't know what it is, but is interested in what it can do. Due to her crazy strength from something called the blessing of might, she's able to carry it with her to a nearby town. The people in the town become interested in what this vending machine, or magic device as they call it, can do, as well as others, like a band of mercenaries that uses this vending machine to help them with their missions. This help starts off by supplying them with food and drink, which is what vending machines usually do, but this vending machine eventually figures out ways it can fight and other ways it can help out based on what else vending machines can actually do in the adventures that it ends up in.
7. Reflect on the anime
Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds? The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.
I guess this anime proves that what you do for others can also depend on what you are, not just who you are. This combination of a vending machine enthusiast's mind inside a vending machine as a body allows him to be helpful as a vending machine in whatever situation he ends up in based on who he's with and/or who he's helping, which is sometimes himself whenever he ends up by himself. However, this is also why he doesn't want to be human again, which is something that can happen due to being able to get a wish by defeating a monster that he managed to beat on his own as a vending machine. As a human, he may know a lot about vending machines, which helps him more with a vending machine as a body, but could he still be useful, or as useful, with just the knowledge of vending machines in a world without them? Could he make a vending machine, or machines, instead of continuing to be one? What would he be able to do for others as a human that he couldn't do as a vending machine? For example, he could talk more as a human since his speech is limited as a vending machine. What else he could do would be something he would have to think about. It's something that we should think, as well as pray about, too.
8. Final Prayer
Please voice any prayer intentions for friends, family, or people around the world that relate to this anime. The following is an example written by me.
Let us pray that we can figure out what we can do for others based on who we are, what we already do for others, and what we want, or can, do for others, as well as ourselves.
