Anime Lectio: Tamon's B-side

                                                               1. Why do Anime Lectio? 

Anime Lectio is a time for us to stop and take a breath. Between work, activities, family life, and social media, our minds are always moving. We rarely take time to contemplate and ask, why am I watching this anime? What’s the point of all this? And, how is this making me feel? 


2. Put away all distractions 

(phones, work, etc.)

We are so enslaved to things that stimulate our minds. Let this be a moment for us to free our minds, look inside of ourselves, and be at peace. The only device you need is the one you use for this blog.


3. Deep Breathing - Open yourself to God’s Presence


Take several deep breaths. Let your mind relax. If you’ve had any questions, desires, or struggles that

you’ve been hiding or stuffing away, let them rise up to the surface. Remember God places all our

thoughts and desires inside of us, and He uses them to draw us closer to Himself. God gives us a

community to help us understand who we are and what He is calling us to do. The faces of people you

know and don't know are like signs of God’s presence. 


4. Think About What’s on Your Mind in Relation to the Anime

Think about what’s been on your mind in relation to the anime.  The following is an example of such thoughts written by me. 


People aren't always what they appear to be.  There could be a side to the people you care about that they don't like to show to others in a more public setting.  This is usually done for the sake of other people, but caring about your own sake is important too.  It's also important to love people no matter what side they show you, as well as whatever happens to them.  An example of this can be seen in the series Tamon's B-side.


5. Brief and written explanation of the anime

Pay attention to how the brief and written explanation of the anime seen on this blog, or seeing the anime for yourself since that's better than any explanation, might “speak” to you or shed light on the things that have been on your minds.


A girl devoted to a certain idol group, particularly a certain member of this idol group, ends up working as a housekeeper in order to make money to keep her devotion going.  Her first, and only, assignment ends up being the place where the certain member of the idol group that she's devoted to lives.  However, instead of always being his usual self that she sees when he's performing, he's completely different when living on his own, which is also the case of most of the other members that they meet as a result of what they end up doing together.  While this certain member of this idol group gets closer to this girl, the girl doesn't think it's a good idea for that to happen because of his other fans, which she also thinks she should just be too.  She even goes so far as to quit her housekeeping job and forget about the idol group, including the particular member of it, that she's devoted to, but the idol group doesn't let that happen because she needs to keep helping him - not only as his housekeeper, but also as a friend.


6.  Reflect on the anime

Has this brief and written explanation of the anime shed any light on what's been on your minds?  The following is an example of a reflection on the anime from me.


While it is important to think of other people who are indirectly involved when making decisions, and how the decisions can influence them, it's also important to think about the people directly involved in the decisions you make, as well as how it influences them, not just you. This is especially true when the other people involved, either directly or indirectly, aren't involved in the decision you make, meaning you make it on your own because you think it's what would be best for everyone. What you think isn't what everyone thinks. What you think is best isn't what everyone thinks is best. What's important is knowing what everyone involved in the decisions thinks and knowing that can only happen through conversation and loving them no matter what side they show us.


7. Final Prayer

Let us pray that we can love people no matter what side they show us and what they think.

The spirituality of Mushishi

Monks in anime: The Boy and the Beast

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=378rzrYQCxA - 3:34      The Boy and the Beast is not only another example of anime with a monk in it, but the video for this  reflection is also created by someone who talks more about this anime in the book Anime Impact.  Not  much is said about the monk character in this video until the end of this video and even then, this  character is only mentioned as one of the characters who helps explain what is going on in the movie.   This character is not even referred to as a monk, but as a pig since he is one of the beast people in the  world of beast people that exists separately from the human world.        I guess a world of beast people needs monks too.  I am not really sure what this monk does in terms of  how he lives differently than other people do.  He does live with the boy and the beast and help them both  with their training in the beast people w...
